September 24, 2009, Manila, Philippines - As part of its efforts in Corporate Social Responsibility, Trends & Technologies Holding, Inc. (TTHI) in cooperation with Hands-On Manila conducted a livelihood program for single mothers and mothers-to-be last September 19, 2009, Saturday.

The livelihood program was held at Nazareth Home in Quezon City, a refuge for pregnant teens and unwed mothers, operated by the volunteer group Kaisahang Buhay Foundation (KBF). The home provides shelter for women facing unexpected pregnancies or have run away from their families. Most of the girls are of a very young age, come from poor families and are not ready for marriage or motherhood. The home is also a safe refuge for survivors of sexual abuse. It's a place that brings together girls with similar problems, helping them realize that they are not alone and that there are people who are more than willing to help them.

The Nazareth Home provides counseling and training for the pregnant teens , preparing them for motherhood in hopes that they will keep their babies when they leave the shelter. The KBF together with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) can facilitate the adoption of the babies born in the shelter but their goal is for the mothers to be willing and able to bring their babies home.

Part of their program to prepare the single mothers is to teach them various livelihood activities. Such is the activity that TTHI participated in last September 19. The volunteers from the various affiliate companies of TTHI visited the Nazareth Home and taught the mothers how to cook assorted foods which can be possible sources of income in the future. Armed with the recipes and ingredients to some famous Filipino delicacies, the volunteers eagerly participated in the cooking activity and took time to bond with the girls and their babies too.

The volunteers and the mothers were arranged in groups and each group was assigned to a specific dish. The recipes spanned from sweet confections to merienda staples which are all common Filipino favorites that can be sold for a profit by the mothers in the near future.

At the end of the activity, everybody enjoyed tasting samples of the each other's finished products, with a few of the volunteers even opting to buy some of the treats themselves. The mothers of the Nazareth Home were very thankful for the time and effort devoted to them and even rendered a special song for the volunteers as a sign of their appreciation.

The volunteers from TTHI were also thankful for the wonderful experience and hoped that their small initiative would somehow help the mothers view a brighter future for them and their babies.
